Description

Popcorn is a light, crunchy, and naturally whole grain snack, packed with fibre and low in calories, making it a delicious and nutritious option for guilt-free snacking. There are two main types of popcorn varieties, each offering a unique texture and experience: Butterfly and Mushroom popcorn.

Butterfly Popcorn:

Known for its irregular, fluffy shape, butterfly popcorn pops with wings and protrusions, making it light and airy. It’s perfect for holding seasonings and is commonly used in movie theatres and for everyday snacking.

Mushroom Popcorn:

Mushroom popcorn, on the other hand, pops into a round, dense shape, resembling a mushroom. This variety is sturdier and less prone to crumbling, making it ideal for caramel or candy coatings and gourmet-style popcorn recipes.

Stovetop Cooking Instructions (Popping Popcorn):

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels (butterfly or mushroom)
  • 2-3 tablespoons cooking oil (e.g., coconut oil or vegetable oil)
  • Salt or seasonings (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Oil: Add oil to a large, heavy-bottomed pot (enough to coat the bottom) and heat over medium-high heat.
  2. Test the Heat: Add 2 or 3 popcorn kernels to the pot and cover. When they pop, the oil is hot enough for the rest of the kernels.
  3. Remove from Heat: Once the test kernels pop, remove the pot from the heat. Add the remaining popcorn kernels to the pot in an even layer and let them sit in the oil for 30 seconds. This helps the kernels warm evenly and prevents burning when returned to heat.
  4. Pop the Corn: Return the pot to medium-high heat and cover. Shake the pot gently every few seconds to prevent burning. As the kernels pop, you’ll hear the popping sound increase, then slow down. Once the popping slows to about 1 pop every few seconds, remove the pot from the heat.
  5. Season and Serve: Immediately transfer the popcorn to a bowl, add salt or other seasonings to taste, and enjoy!
